    • Long Journeys Need Smiles

When I seen the sign “You Are NOT Almost There” it made me laugh, and remember a time many years ago when my daughter and I eagerly embarked on a day hike 6 miles into the Grand Canyon.

      Guess What?

      6 miles down is a breeze……..

6 miles up at 110 degrees is NOT……. lol

In support and outreach to others………

On our challenging journey out of the Canyon (although we did not make a sign) we were sure to caution every passing hiker on the way into the canyon!

DOWN IS EASY…. but…. UP IS NOT EASY

Life is not always fun and we sometimes make choices or eagerly follow a path that turns out to take us on quite a different journey then we once expected!

Thankfully when you put Faith in a Higher Power you are NOT in this alone.

Sometimes it is more about what you are walking away from than what you are walking to.

Possibly the most important thing we find when walking away from difficult experiences is an amazing inner strength that somehow carrys our body’s through disasters when our minds are numb and our muscles simply roboticly move us forward.

Survival instinct may not always be about an amazing human strength that powers us through difficult challenges but quite possibly better explained as the intuitive Power of Divine Guidance.

I also believe in something my family likes to refer to as Divine Comic Relief. These are times within the saddest or most serious moments we are experiencing when something happens and in within the most serious of times you can’t help but laugh.

We need smiles to get us through the tearful times!

I like to believe those times as well are sent to us from God.

Recently I have been enjoying a lot of time in the woods walking on trails. There is a peacefulness in the atmosphere, the fragrances and songs of the birds keep your mind anchored in the present moment. There is nothing more calming the enjoying then truly experiencing the very moment you are in without distraction.

“We need to find God and he cannot be found in noise and restlessness. God is the friend of silence. See how nature, trees, flowers, grass, grow in silence; see the stars, the moon and the sun, how they move in silence. We need silence to be able to touch souls”. Mother Teresa

Many years ago someone recomended a book to me called Grandma Gatewoods Walk. It is a true story about amazingly strong lady who simply read an article in National Geographic magazine about the Appalachian Trail and then just decided to thru hike it…….. she knew her family would advise her against it so she just decided to tell them she was going on a walk…… leaving out the fact that it was a two thousand and fifty mile long walk. LOL

Emma Gatewood was 67 years old when she decided to take this walk!

She eventually did have to be truthful with her family when national publications began following her to publish articles on her solo thru hike.

You can read more about her here Appalachian Trail Histories/Emma Gatewood

I have shared the audio version of this book with elderly individuals I have taken care of. Many of them found it very interesting and recognized some of the local history that was referenced as she was traveling through the local areas of the Appalachian Trail in Pennsylvania. I will share a link here if you are interested in possibly sharing it with others.

I pray all those struggling through difficult paths find Peaceful Moments, Silent times to be with God, and some Heaven sent smiles to keep you moving forward and finding Hope.

With Hope, Joy, Peace and Love, Carmela

    • “Well, I guess one can’t be Jealous without showing it”

Posted at 10:24 AM by carmelasnelbaker
      Jun 5th

God how I wish things just made sense. I wish life events just stop hitting so hard. Sometimes I truly want to stop my life and ask God, “Where do I get the bus that takes me out of here. Please, I have had enough now!”

So to all the people who feel grand inadequacy, lonelyness and confusion……. I am with you! I am willing to bet there are many of us out there.

To all the people who find it hard to put words or comprehensive thoughts to the feelings behind the inadequacy, I understand I struggle with this daily and have for quite some time. Life is fluid, always changing and at times hard to keep up with.

I have found that during each current struggle with prayer, reflection and purging of words onto paper some amount of understanding or clarity begins to show. In some respects there may never be the “right” answer but if we examine the feelings behind the issues we can, at the very least, find some sort of empathy toward the opposing view.

When I was in my thirties I quit my full-time job to be with my mother, who had just found out she would most likely have only 6 more months to live. Although measured time is very treasured and I am forever grateful for every additional moment I was able to spend with her, at the time I was very upset with the doctor for telling my mother her time was so limited. It weighed heavy on her mind and the sadness was devestating.

After my mom had died and life began to get back to normal I met someone in my workplace who I immediately seemed to have a dislike for. This bothered me to a level that I was constantly trying to understand why I felt that way toward them. I eventually realized that it was the fact that they were always full of complaints, stories and frustrations about their mother. As a person who had recently watched her mother go from looking like a healthy 57 year old to looking like she was twice that age before dying just 6 months later this was hard to hear.

When I examined those feeling even deeper I realized that the emotion that was causing this dislike toward that person was one of Jealousy. I was jealous of this person because she had a mother and I disliked her because she was not appreciative of the fact that her mother was alive.

Putting words to feelings eventually helps with healing, although Life is messy and our scars and devastations will always be a part of who we are. Emotional experiences can build the foundation of empathetic characteristics. I know my past experiences help me have Patience and Love for others who are also struggling and acting a bit irrational during the most difficult and unfair events that unfold in life.

Do I wish life would be easier? Absolutely.

Do I wish all the hurt would end? Of course.

Will I always resist deep heart pain and loss like a toddler kicking and screaming no I can’t go there again? Most certainly.

Will I always want to prevent or improve painful moments for others? Yep, because empathetic hearts hurt for other people as well as themselves.

The one thing I know for sure is I totally appreciate my parents and their quirky manner of guiding us through life! As youngsters if we were complaining about another person, instead of a lecture or explanation a simple comment like “Well, I guess one can’t be jealous without showing it.” would be enough said……… Leaving people to figure it out for themselves might be the answer. Along with prayer for an unstoppable longing to figure out what the “next right thing to do is”

With Respect, Hope, Joy and Love, Carmela

    • What if?

Posted at 1:50 PM by carmelasnelbaker
      May 15th

I appologize in advance because nothing I write here will probably make complete sense to anyone other then me. I cannot share details about others I take care of or that are involved in my life.

However, events, encounters and the questions that often get left behind, after traumatic events and the struggle to make sense out of so much hurt is not an uncommon dilemma.

I hope by sharing the hurts and questions that weigh so heavy on my heart it might make sense to someone struggling with the same questions.

There are way to many painful experiences that people go through that leave us devastated and searching for a path out of such deep hurt.

The things we have in common with others are not always apparent when we first meet someone.

The scars one has on their heart is not a visable trait for a passerby to see.

Time passes, we somehow find a way to move forward along with the rest of world but the hurts that hit the heart the hardest never really go away.

It is possible for people who appear to have amazing resiliency from past traumatic events to be truly living their lives as if they have been “cast in a roll in a play”. Survival is necessary because others depend on us.

Hearts scarred from life tragedies can identify with others “surviving” with scarred hearts, there is a heightened awarness and recognition of deep hurts in others.

Is the road less traveled the tragically broken heart that keeps walking even when your body simply wants to stop breathing?

Is the road less traveled the road where those with broken hearts attempt to seek out other “play actors” walking forward with hidden traumatic pain in an attempt to be the positive influence and offer the very support and love they desperatly need themselves?

Is the road less traveled the road that keeps an open heart and empathy toward all people in pain even those showing unsettled rage and aggression because of devestation and pain?

What if all of the hate in the world is emotionally misdirected hurt and rage?

What if the road less traveled is the road of silencing human feelings, the emotional pain and praying for the message of God to take over?

As I type this I sit here crying, the only words coming to mind are….. “now wait, now….. you just have to be smarter then the chair you are working on” ………… recalculating …… return to route

Please leave your thought below……… open a discussion with others….. share you thoughts, fears, hopes with others……

Nothing can ever be resolved without putting words to feelings, sharing experiences and most importantly being sensitive and empathetic to other situations

With Respect, Hope, Joy and Love, Carmela

Mother’s Day can sometimes be difficult. My mom died many years ago, even though her influence and memories are with me everyday I still do miss her presence.

I was awakened this morning by a phone call at 6AM to the most enthusiastic “Good Morning, Carmela”. It wasn’t because it was Mother’s Day…… Just a day that she was able to reach out to me by phone. I can’t really share details but even though it was a happy conversation and it TOTALLY warmed my heart and made my Mother’s Day complete! I am sitting here crying so hard…. Her struggle with mental health is real and I wish so badly there were easy fixes for such difficult problems! Please pray for everyone who struggles in this world with difficult situations.

      “May you be happy,

      May you be healthy,

May you be free from danger,

May you have ease of Well Being.”

To ALL the women who have touched a young hearts in a positive loving manner …… You are awesome…..

Mother’s Day is about Love………. Happy Mother’s Day to you……….The world needs LOVE

    • Recalculating………..Return to the Route

Posted at 10:24 PM by carmelasnelbaker
      May 5th

What if one day you woke up and everything that once was, is now completely different?

I know for sure that life is not easy. But I also know for sure that no matter how bad it is, it could always be worse. There will always be something to be grateful for when you have Faith.

To this day I can still hear my mom and dads voices from heaven reminding me how they supported me through a struggle. It often makes me smile the quirky phrases or references they often used.

“Now wait now…….you just have to be smarter than the chair you are working on” dad would say. My dad was a woodworker. I was the upholsterer. Lol

I loved to sew and upholstered many pieces. The fragile antique wood items challenged me. Dad came to my rescue on many occasions.

I know it is much harder to instruct someone and watch them struggle while learning the solution to the problem, then it is to take over do it for them.

I am glad dad chose the hard way and took the time to teach me how to solve problems and contemplate answers rather then taking over and doing it for me.

Being ‘Level Headed” “Humble” and “Wise” were all admirable traits of a good person in my dad’s book. Being open to new ideas and various opinions, were also good traits, but the utmost importance was having courage and confidence in our Inner Spirit.

My 11 year old grandson taught me that true courage comes from God. “I’ll be brave” he would say when being faced with yet another medical procedure or difficult challenge. When he was particularly fearful he would fold his hands a pray. “Dear God, Please take the scary stuff away.” Prayer is powerful when faith is deep.

“When I found that I knew not only that there was God but that I was a child of God, when I understood that, When I comprehended that, more than that, when I internalized that, ingested that, I became courageous.” Dr. Maya Angelou

I find myself hesitating as I write this. The need to use the right words to communicate clearly is Huge! Although my Faith and understanding has never been stronger I worry that the very problem itself is Not the Words that are written, or what we are reading once it is written ….. The real problem lies in the Level of Faith the reader has in what is True.

If your faith is shallow what you read will be understood at the limited level your human understanding will allow. Without Faith in a Higher Power we are limited in our understanding of what is Right and what is True.

It is impossible to communicate the Truth if the reader or the writer has little Faith in what is True.

Without Truth there is nothing. Without Faith there IS no Truth.

In a world of many people, many languages and many levels of Faith, it is wrong for a person, Political Party, or Religious Right group to attempt to be the enforcers of God’s word. The very thought a Church or Political Group would even WANT to make laws and force others to follow those laws is a HUGE example of their Faulty level of faith!

When you feel the need to take over and do things yourself so that your level of understanding is enforced, you are showing how truly WEAK your faith really is…….. HAVE YOU NOT MISSED THE POINT OF PRAYER AND THE POWER OF YOUR GOD?

WHEN YOU FEEL THE NEED TO BLOCK SOMEONE BECAUSE YOU BELIEVE THE OTHER HUMAN WILL FAIL TO SEE IT AT “FACE VALUE” ……. YOU ARE SHOWING WHAT LITTLE FAITH YOU HAVE IN GOD!

IS IT NOT WISER TO PRAY TO THE HIGHER POWER?

IS IT NOT WISER TO ASK FOR GOD’S WISDOM AND GUIDANCE DURING LIFE’S DIFFICULT MOMENTS?

IS IT NOT WISER TO PRAY FOR ALL OF THOSE WHO ARE IN NEED OF GUIDENCE?

DIDN’T JESUS TEACH HIS DISCIPLES HOW TO PRAY?

Re-evaluate your level of Faith………. Let go of human arrogance……..let go of the need to control the outcome of your prayers……… Let God be in control……..Pray for the courage to allow his will to be done as Jesus taught us………..

With Respect, Hope, Joy and Love, Carmela

    • The Tiny Mustard Seed of Faith

Posted at 9:24 AM by carmelasnelbaker
      Jul 17th

In a world so divided on so many topics where human arrogance overflows and has brewed into hate, violence and death over attempts to gain or keep power and control “The Mustard Seed Of Faith” is desperately needed.

When all the lines are blurred and deliberate attempts are made to “muddy the waters” so Truth is never revealed, maybe it is time we step back and look at the bigger picture. See the Human arrogance for what it truly is, and let go of it. Park that Halo you think you are wearing (or deserve) look in the mirror and truly see the person you are. The Human Being that has faults, makes mistakes, that is equal BUT not worthier than any other human being on this earth. A Human Being who may look differently, act or communicate differently and in God’s Eyes is AS Precious but not MORE precious than every other Human Being.

Not until you completely lower your importance to the same level of your oppositions can true communication and understanding be accomplished. It is NOT JUST the “walk a mile in my shoes” reference or belief that is needed. Rather an IMMERSE YOURSELF IN THEIR VERSION OF EXISTANCE that is needed to fully understand and empathize with others. Even more then just listening, it is actively making an attempt at HEARING what another person is saying and also FEELING what it must be like to live in their situation.

Each of us is not without sin, however when communicating with another human being if “their sin” is the first thing that you see or address, at that point might “your sin” be even greater.

One of my favorite Bible verses has always been Matthew 17:20

And he said to them “for truly I say to you, if you have faith the size of a mustard seed, you will say to this mountain, ‘Move from here to there,’ and it will move; and nothing will be impossible to you Matthew 17:20 .

The parable of the mustard seed also describes how God’s Kingdom grows in the life of each believer. When a person puts their trust in Jesus, the Holy Spirit comes to live within. When the mustard seed is planted in the ground even though it may not be seen by others it continues to grow, rooting more deeply, gaining stength and growing more and more every day.

When carrying the tiny mustard seed parable in you heart it helps us to understand that even a seemingly small act of kindness, saying a faith-filled prayer for someone, or whatever faith-motivated act we take, no matter how small, can have an eternal and mountain-moving impact on another’s life.

It is THIS knowledge and faith that I pray begins to appear more in the world we now live in. As our leaders making laws and often arguing their opinions with great human arrogance, may we all pray and believe with that tiny mustard seed of Hope that it will not be the Human arrogance that prevails but the Mercy, Love and Kindness of God that comes through and moves those mountains.

With Respect, Hope, Joy and Love, Carmela

    • Stop Breathe and Listen

Posted at 6:51 AM by carmelasnelbaker
      Nov 6th

It is customary to focus on the breath in yoga, training the mind to quiet the daily chaos and focus on the internal breath that sustains life. Not only does it calm the senses but also focuses the mind and opens our heart to messages of Divine Wisdom and Understanding.

Wide awake or sleeping we don’t think about breathing it happens automatically. Each day we breathe about 20,000 times.

When we practice mindfulness with each breath we become aware of the common link in all humanity. Without breath we cannot live. When we stop to focus on the breath we can quiet the busy thoughts in our minds that cause anxiety, worry, fear and hate. Until we quiet “self” we cannot hear “Divine”.

Job 32:8“But it is a spirit in man, And the breath of the Almighty gives them understanding”.

John 15:5  5 “I am the vine; you are the branches. If you remain in me and I in you, you will bear much fruit; apart from me you can do nothing.

Another common part of a yoga practice is the Tree Pose. I find it fascinating that within the human respiratory system the bronchial tree is significant to the breathing process. The Bronchi themselves branch many times into smaller airways. The airways resemble an upside down tree.

Much like the bible verse states the branches of the bronchial tree cannot survive without the “trachea vine”, and without breath we would not have life.

bronchial treeAlthough our minds may continue trying to make us focus on human differences if we choose to stop the thoughts, concentrate on the breath and listen to the Spirit within us. Our thoughts can turn from  negative “selfish thoughts” to positive “Divine inspiration”.

    • “Angelic First Responders” I’m Glad Our Paths Cross

Posted at 7:33 PM by carmelasnelbaker
      Aug 5th

Somewhere someone is saying a prayer for help, somewhere someone is praying for Divine Guidance to lead them and somewhere else someone is praying for all those in need.

Perhaps there are no accidental encounters in life. Perhaps every person we encounter is a miraculous unfolding of “angelic first responders” unknowingly responding to “911 prayer requests”.

Perhaps Heavenly souls direct us, connect us and cause necessary paths to cross. Those in need of wisdom with those who may unknowingly possess bits of wisdom. Like miraculously answered prayers that calm fears and provide hope and peace during difficult storms in life.

Perhaps it has nothing to do with any level of human intelligence only the willingness to allow our feet to follow and our heart and minds to be open to transmitting angelic messaging.

Yesterday upon completing my daily lunchtime visit I tell my sweet friend “I must go now but I will be back to see you on Monday”. “I won’t be here on Monday” she tells me. “You won’t? Where will you be?” I ask. “I will be with the angels” she tells me.

As a hospice support worker I know that the changes she speaks of are always a looming possibility for many of my patients. It is at this point that my angels in heaven take over and speak for me. I somehow am able to very calmly tell her beautiful stories of my grandson who also traveled this transitional road from earth to heaven and the beautiful messages and signs of hope and strength he shares with me of a Love that is so strong that it can so easily and continuously transcend the distance between Heaven and Earth. Her eyes open with an attention that unquestionably asks for more. “Angel first responders” take over and speak with an eloquence and confidence we humans don’t possess.

Overhearing our conversation a facility aid kindly stops what she is doing and enters into the conversation. I am able to tell her memories of how my grandson loved taking care of the newborn baby that blessed the neighbors family a few months before his departure. How he very quickly earned the title as the “baby whisperer”.  How whenever he would hear the baby cry “Give me the baby, guys” he would say. His ability to calm the baby from the hospital bed that had been brought into the home to provide comfort for him was nothing short of amazing.

Even though we attempt to plan our futures, life has a way of dealing us unpredictable surprises. It is within these tragic painful events that we are exposed to an UN-measurable level of education that a person would never choose to experience, but the beauty and depth of faith it can leave us with is life changing.  We can gather strength from deep sorrow and an ability to recognize and empathize with others who are experiencing similar difficulties, and when our loved ones in Heaven feel the connection of spirit they intervene and quietly and humbly take over and speak through us with a confidence otherwise unknown to us.

2 Corinthians 1:4 He comforts us in all our troubles so that we can comfort others. When they are troubled, we will be able to give them the same comfort God has given us.

We are all teachers as well as students. Divine guidance leads us to those who have the wisdom that we need. The most profound messages often reach us when we least expect them.

Even when we may not be intentionally attempting to teach others, our actions and responses often share lessons much greater then words are capable of. Possibly through an angelic blessing being sent to a another soul requesting a message of wisdom.

Thank you Lord for the continued conversation! and for the beautiful army of “Angelic First Responders” answering the emergency prayer requests!

With Respect, Hope, Joy and Love,   Carmela

The wool crosses are needle felted from my sheep’s wool. They were inspired by a beautiful lady and her family who I had the privilege of meeting as she traveled the transitional road from earth to Heaven. Her Spirit continues to bless others as I continuously make and share the crosses with others who cross my path. I think of her often and am forever grateful for all the beautiful souls who brighten my life and leave me much wiser and stronger by sharing their thoughts and Wisdom with me.

    • Like Tiny Snowflakes of Hope, Joy and Love Angelic Souls’ Messages Blanket The Earth

The most perfect beauty often happens within a fraction of a moment as one observes the genuine pureness of protective Love one for another. Each taking selfless steps to prepare for the other’s ease of well-being as the future begins to unfold.

Being witness to the message of Hope in what feels to be a Hopeless situations is nothing short of amazing. Being in it and through it myself I am aware the end of life experiences and moments will not always feel positive, hopeful or Awe inspiring. Often they may not be witnessed by those closest but possibly by the “outsider”. I am convinced we are not supposed to be able to figure out why. The most important message is  Every Souls‘ Wisdom and purpose is important and most assuredly it will unfold in the manner it should. Whether it shines through like a billboard or comes quietly much later as a gentle whisper is not what is important. The joint message of many Souls is what brings us Hope.

It is a blessing to be present with a family and witness the gentle unfolding of protective Love in action. Each person, whether a parent, a child or grandchild, or one spouse toward another, going to great lengths to protect the other from undue burden and discomfort in the future.

Each one knowing our earthly journey sometimes causes us to travel some very difficult roads. Each one taking steps to protect the other and assist in making their future journey as smooth and free of unnecessary pain as possible.

When living through the moment as a family each member often silently taking steps and making quiet sacrifices to allow or facilitate ease of burden for the other.

As an outside source of support the complete picture of a families love for each other focuses into a very clear snapshot of perfect love. A Love that takes steps to protect each other from as much hurt as necessary. A love willing to cover up their own pain to ease the burden for the other. A Love that sees through the stoic front, reaches past the facade to embrace and share the burden together.

Each Soul we are introduced to here on our earthly journey carries lessons of Wisdom they may not even be aware of themselves.

In a majestic unfolding of Divine moments of Wisdom each unique lesson will become clear to those it was intended to reach.

Each souls lesson joins with other lessons, and like tiny snowflakes of Love, Hope, and Joy  angelic souls’ messages blanket the earth with the purest message of Warmth and Divine Love.

Like a warm blanket being wrapped around you when you are cold and afraid, let the beautiful blanket of Hope, Joy and Love wrap you and quiet your fears during times of confusion, grief and sorrow. It is then when we feel the continued angelic support and unending Love that our Loved One’s share with us.

With Respect, Hope, Joy and Love,    Carmela
