    • “The Luckiest People In The World”

Posted at 10:10 AM by carmelasnelbaker
      Apr 15th

Somewhere along our Journey on earth there is a moment in time that significance of being becomes a realization like it never was before. From that moment on, every moment going forward and every moment in the past will hold a different level of understanding.

Life is like a mosaic piece of artwork. The finished piece is beautiful and we appreciate its beauty at a quick glance, however the true beauty is in the ability of the artist to place many fragmented pieces, otherwise unremarkable on their own, into a completed masterpiece.

Much like Prayer and Meditation when a major life change forces us to stop and dwell in the moment it is then that we start to realize that each ugly fragment in our life is a very important part of a beautiful completed masterpiece.

My thoughts, memories and conversations were drawn several times this week to amazing ways Divine enlightenment finds us through the connection of spiritual souls.

I am forever amazed at how many times God has introduced a new person into my life who holds a tiny piece of wisdom that was the puzzle piece I needed to comfort a worry I was experiencing.

When we stop trying to control our lives and the people around us, and we stop, pray, listen for, and follow God’s direction He will introduce us to spiritual beings who hold Wisdom that we need to continue on our journey. The Mosaic of a Spiritual Soul’s Journey on Earth contains many beautiful fragmented encounters with other Spiritual teachers. Every spiritual teacher is also a continual student as well.

Divine Wisdom flows through each spiritual being who allows their heart light to shine.

The song People Who Need People kept coming to mind this week. “People who need people are the luckiest people in the world” How fortunate we are that God sends his infinite Wisdom through our hearts and lives and connects us all with Spiritual encounters of Divine Love.

Always keep your heart and mind open for Divine Wisdom. The message we are searching for will arrive possibly from a passing encounter with a stranger or a well know friend, we can never be sure.

Open your heart to both Receiving and Giving Divine Love to all people. Realization of significance of being brings both Peace and Joy to each moment in life.

People who need people are the luckiest people in the world……..

Somewhere, somehow we will find a new way of living, We’ll find a way of forgiving. Someway, Somehow, Someday……….

With Respect Hope Joy and Love,  Carmela

    • A Caregive’s Pain… Why I Am Bothered By the Use of the Word “Libtard”

Posted at 3:37 PM by carmelasnelbaker
      Feb 17th

I recently spoke up attempting to explain why I felt that it was important to express our opinions in a respectful manner and not use divisive words or personal attacks. Stress is high in the political arena. Defenses mechanisms flare at the first word. Please read completely to fully understand and hopefully consider my point of view. Please be sure to share your thoughts on the matter as well. We learn and grow from each others experiences in life.

This is a political neutral request being presented with kindness please continue to read.

I am speaking up about the use of the word “Libtard”……….. If I would have seen signs and posts that stated “conservatard” I would be speaking up about that as well.

At the risk of looking like a Prude or an oversensitive person I am feeling the need to explain the education I received from many beautiful people who have a diagnosis of intellectual or developmental disabilities in their medical histories.

I see the use of the word “libtard” (Which is a derogatory term –  combination of the words liberal and retarded)  unnecessary, unkind, and offensive to those who may have head injuries, intellectual disabilities or developmental disabilities from birth.

Any one of us could wake up tomorrow and have a diagnosis in our medical charts of mental retardation due to brain injury.

To those who may be recovering, or have a family member recovering it is sad and traumatic and may not be something that is easily laughed off.

When you work with those afflicted you see and feel the seriousness of it. I post this in hopes of gaining respect and awareness for the people I have worked with like those who work with people who are in the Military or Veterans.

As a caregiver I literally find myself saying OUCH when I have to take a bandage off someone I am giving care too. It hurts me to see them hurt! I was trained the “R” word should be respect.

It pains me to see so  many people use words, labels and names to deliberately attempt to belittle someone or a group with an opposing viewpoint.

My post has nothing to do with democrat or republican it is simply speaking out requesting respect for all people with mental disabilities.

The very first step toward positive solutions is finding common ground, and treating each other with respect.

This is impossible when we intentionally call each other names and attempt to diminish and discredit the opposing side using demeaning  words and “name calling”.

I truly believe in free speech but my heart believes also in having and expressing respect for one another.

It is possible to voice one’s opinion without calling the person with the opposing opinion a derogatory name. This only causes division, anger and hurt.

I pray Americans will soon join together, humbly realize and admit when we have said things, done things or communicated things in an inappropriate manner.

Resolutions to conflicts begin with the willingness to compromise and show respect for an opposing opinion.

Peace comes to those with open hearts who welcome in Wisdom and Strength to make positive changes.

A willingness to humbly open ones heart to feel another person’s pain will open our eyes to a new found clarity and wisdom.

I pray others will join with me in attempting to communicate and articulate our opinions in a manner that does not instigate or enrage emotional responses and belittle other human beings.

With Respect, Hope, Joy and Love, Carmela

    • Enough “When Arguing With A Stupid Person Make Sure They Are Not Doing The Same”

Posted at 10:56 AM by carmelasnelbaker
      Feb 8th

Every second of Life is filled with a multitude of  wise quotes educational studies and varied opinions of how we can improve ourselves. One could spend countless hours trying to absorb and understand the perfect way to find happiness and Joy.

The entire time we are researching, digesting and ruminating the many different human opinions on how to live an optimum life filled with Joy the clock continues to tick away and the precious moment of Joy are falling through the hour glass as we study.

Then someone says something that is drastically in contrast to the peaceful existence the “seeker of Joy” is attempting to understand and develop. The manner in which we respond to this says it ALL. As a seeker of Joy and peace if we become enraged by the comment and at the person who communicated it we loose our focus and we can easily be pulled into the vacuum of despair that will most assuredly do nothing but steal the joy of the present moment and add to the chaos and anxiety in the world.

Peace and wisdom is attainable only after we deescalate agitated emotional feelings that come naturally in human behavior. As human beings we all want to feel safe and have our opinions respected. We learn by doing. We also learn by the mistakes we make. We have more things in common with each other than we often realize.

Both sides are at fault when there is a disagreement that is not handled in a respectful manner. I was given a very helpful bit of wisdom from a church sign once many years ago…… “When arguing with a stupid person, make sure he is not doing the same thing”.

It is a common narcissistic human reaction to want to be heard and have your opinion respected, when you feel you are not being heard or your point is not being taken seriously the narcissistic response often turns to aggressive language and maliciousness and personal attacks to show power. It is a vicious circle that will never result in a peaceful resolution.

Meditation brings awareness that is available to us all from deep within. It may be referred to in many different ways but the common denominator will always be Love. Stillness and Meditation will connect you with Internal Universal Wisdom. The inner voice I like to refer to as the Whisper of God.

We will all react at times “Humanly” and with emotions however, we need to forgive each others slip ups and begin again to listen for the word of God to lead us to a better reaction……. (this example came from a book I read once long ago, A Life Worth Breathing)… imagine if you were in a car accident…. You are laying along side the road with torn clothes and bleeding. The ambulance driver arrives jumps out of the ambulance and responds emotionally…….”Oh MY GOD, you are in horrible shape! This is going to be hopeless, no-one will be able to fix this”. No one wants something like this to happen.

Remember to focus on the moment in front of you and not worry about the imagined moments of the future. We can waste many precious joyful moments when we fantasize, strategize, and organize for the imagined disasters in the future.

Life is better when we build one another up instead of tear each other down. Teach each other and be willing to learn from each other. Children are watching how we respond and treat political figures and this is how they will believe it is acceptable to treat all humans.

Be confident that as individual souls living an earthly experience we have enough internal wisdom to get us through our Journey here on earth. Never forget to Be Still and listen to the Higher Wisdom within you instead of responding emotionally from your human ego. Lets not be that ambulance driver with nothing but alarming words proclaiming our demise.

It is possible to voice one’s opinion without calling the person with the opposing opinion a derogatory name. When we express ourselves with respect we promote a peaceful enviornment. By responding offensively to an oposing opinion we are teaching our children it is acceptable to call people derogatory names, antagonize others who believe differently than you and cause division instead of promote unity and peacefulness.

    • Naked Time….. The Ticking Of The Clock

Posted at 7:46 PM by carmelasnelbaker
      Jan 4th

Something that I have learned to love as a caregiver is the simplicity of a quiet house. A number of different times now I have found myself with someone who prefers a quiet home.

All external noise is turned off and from the inside of the home we find ourselves truly appreciating the tick of the clock, the clicking on of the furnace keeps us warm.

The music of the birds and the most simple blessings all disappear when TV, radio and the busyness of the world is allowed into our environment with one push of a button.

Sometimes there is nothing better than being in a silent room and truly appreciating the simplest and most basic blessings in life.

In the fast paced world as we know it today, multitasking and hurrying through each day trying to meet deadlines, due dates and appointments is not only an accepted way of life it has become an expected way of life.

The phrase “don’t over think it” seems to be a very popular and a somewhat accepted thought in our busy society. What if though, a moment never really truly happens until we process it through our minds and into our memories. Or in simpler terms “think about it”.

When we go through our days on “auto pilot” multitasking like robots in a routine of waking, pushing the ON button of our favorite form of access to the busy world, as we ingest all of the newest and latest updates and outrages from society, the moments that we are existing in are all being clouded by chaos and confusion.

What if the very reason we sometimes cling to STUFF (for memory sake) is because we never allowed ourselves to be fully present in the moment, so we cling to a reminder as if it holds the same value as the experience itself.

Quite possibly the Wisdom these beautiful Souls, I have the privilege of caring for, have shared with me is the preciousness of each and every second. It truly does not matter if the clock ticking next to us is an antique grandfather clock masterpiece or a battery operated wall clock. The true treasure is the time we are experiencing.  The true naked time…..undressed from current day distractions, news reports, chaos and opinions of doom.

Like a shadow being cast on an object from the light before it, although it may appear to elongate our existence it can disappear in a second once the light is removed.

With Respect, Hope, Joy and Love,  Carmela

    • The Curve Of A Smile Can Set A Lot Of Things Straight

Posted at 11:19 AM by carmelasnelbaker

Through Humor, you soften some of the worst blows that life delivers, and once you find laughter, no matter how painful your situation might be you can survive it. …. Bill Cosby

I am beginning to believe that developing a good sense of humor as a child just might be one of the most important puzzle pieces to a successful and healthy future.ImageEven though we attempt to plan for our future, life has a way of dealing out unpredictable surprises. In the midst of the most sad and serious moments I have had to endure, I like to believe God is the one sending me a silly moment that makes me chuckle to lighten the burden.

As a parent and grandparent I believe It is so important to encourage a child’s sense of humor. Be silly, read silly books with your child, make humor and laughter a part of each day. It is never to late to teach a child to develop a healthy sense of humor. I heard someone say once that a good sense of humor in life, is like shock absorbers are to vehicles. It can take away some of those nasty, unpleasant bumps.  It truly is as Bill Cosby puts it, once you find laughter, know matter how painful your situation might be you can survive it. Be sure to make many fun and silly memories, so your child has many to select from when experiencing a difficult time!

As a caregiver I have seen the positive effects of humor. It can diffuse aggression and anger, as well as turn tears into a smile. It also has a calming effect when someone feels nervous or embarrassed. Small children respond to “Oh no, You must have forgot to put your smile on this morning!” Causing the child to stop and think about getting dressed and physically putting a smile on, just might be enough to redirect the unhappy thought and mood and engage them in a playful imaginary hunt for their lost smile.

A very important thing to remember is humor must never be hurtful or disrespectful. It is possible to recognize funny situations or find humor in a funny story without making fun of a person. I really believe that our “bullying” situations in our schools are simply misguided children, attempting to get people to like them or get noticed by making others laugh, at the expense of another person. I have seen adults with low self-esteem attempt to make themselves look better by tearing another person down and then boasting about their own abilities. Sadly many times they are not at all aware of what they are doing. This is simply what they have felt they needed to do and have been doing it their entire lives.

I found a beautiful blog: Sending Hope  by: Tracy Hodge That speaks of this very issue. She puts it so perfectly that I am feeling the need to share her words. This is how she put it… Great people, truly great people, are not afraid of the greatness of others. They are not intimidated nor are they threatened when others around them succeed or even surpass them. Great people enjoy lifting others up and never mind showing others the way. On the other hand, small people like to be surrounded by other small people. Small people tear others down in laughter and seldom offer a kind word unless it is to flatter someone in their favor. Small people gossip out of jealousy and have no concept of loyalty. (You can read the entire blog by clicking here)

      Holding The Sky

Mother Teresa once said: The fruit of Love is service, The fruit of service is peace, And peace begins with a smileImage

Two very important things to remember…..  Always remember before you put on a frown, make absolutely certain there are no smiles available. and…..If you meet someone without a smile, give them one of yours. You may never know what a positive affect that may bring to the person who has none.

With respect, hope, joy and love,    Carmela

    • Be That Someone Who Makes Someone Else Look Forward To Tomorrow :)

      Sep 12th

There is nothing more enjoyable then being with someone who is just simply fun to be with. Someone who refuses to be pulled down by the negatives of the world. Someone who takes on the challenge of lifting the spirits of a group of people who are heavyhearted.

Like the photo above, they simply seem to be filled with a natural Joy and they cannot contain the positive energy. With the lightheartedness of a hummingbird they seem to buzz, zoom, zing and zip around with an urgency that is mesmerizing and can’t help but bring a smile of admiration to others.

Some days we are not able to escapes dealing with challenging moments during a lifetime. I like to believe God introduces us to people who we need to help us get through life’s journey. When our spirits are low and  a person who has overflowing energy and joy enters into our path, perhaps it is not simply a random joyful encounter but quite possibly an intentional Divine Blessing placed along the path of a difficult day.

Enjoy each smile that enters your day. Be grateful for each encounter of overflowing Joy, and return the favor to others on days when your Joy cannot be contained.

    • Genuine Human Elegance Is A Heart Shining From Within Filled With Divine Love

Posted at 12:38 PM by carmelasnelbaker
      Sep 8th

My heart hurts today. There are children living each precious day of this life with challenges that they bear with so much grace, elegance and strength that is nothing short of miraculous!

Thank Goodness for the Innocence of a child that shines through with a Light that is so profound and filled with the Infinite Wisdom Of Divine Love,  Being Sent To Them Directly From Heaven.

As adults we can learn from their examples of limitless strength and innocent wisdom.

      be-happy-for-no-reason-like-a-child1     dove

We are born with a heart of Innocence and Love.  Somewhere along the way growing up we are taught or begin to question and develop fear.

When we fail to trust and look outside our limited human self for wisdom, we begin to live a life of selfish limitations. We become negative, we criticize and set ourselves apart from others. We see only through eyes of fear. Once we fail to trust Divine Guidance we begin to fret and become selfish.

When we attempt to survive on human wisdom alone, we invite in fear and limitations. A person living in fear and survival mindset will always have a “what about me” mantra, and an animal like response to survive.

When we surrender to Divine Guidance our lives gain clarity. We begin to recognize how much we need each other to survive. Our hearts develop Genuine Love for other humans and recognize our likenesses instead of our differences.

Genuine Human Elegance is a Heart shining from within filled with Divine Love.

~ as Luciano De Crescenzo stated……. ~ We are each of us angels with only one wing, and we can only fly by embracing one another. ~

      fret-about-future

For God gave us a spirit not of fear but of power and love and self-control.       II Tim. 1:7

It is God who arms me with strength, And makes my way perfect. Psalm 18:32

Angels shine from without because their spirits are lit from within by the light of God. ~Quoted in The Angels’ Little Instruction Book by Eileen Elias Freeman, 1994

Never give into to fear. Always remain hopeful and invite the Holy Spirit to take the lead and learn to trust with your whole heart.

Learn to be happy for no reason, like a child.

There is no amount of elegance as sweet as the beauty, innocence and precious wisdom of a child.

    • If We Can Choose Our Demise I Want To Go Out Like This Cat ….. :) Taken By Curiosity

Posted at 5:46 PM by carmelasnelbaker
      Aug 23rd

      via Daily Prompt: Learning

With the quiet ticking of the Grandfather clock in the background as I sit here and contemplate the Daily Post Word prompt of the day, it brings a bit of a smile to my lips. I am not sure when I first heard the phrase “Curiosity killed the cat”, but I do know that it was something that my dad said to me often.

I wonder now if he was saying it as a caution to me. It seems that I have a very natural personality trait of unending curiosity as well as a fearless unstoppable urge to stop at nothing when it comes to advocating or improving a situation for those in need.

In reminiscing  on the many life lessons I have lived through and learned from. I must admit that the “obligatory response trigger” my heart seems to have, has been known to disturb the calm in my life at times. When I cause my own life disturbance because of reaching out to improve things for others, after the dust settles I am always glad I did.

So I suppose knowing my inner instincts and personal history, if my Dr. had psychic abilities and could foresee my future “I am sorry, it’s curiosity” may very well be a diagnosis I could one day hear as well.

I could think of worse ways for a life to end though. If I say goodbye to this world helping another soul, or learning or teaching a positive lesson of Love, I choose to believe it would be a good thing.

      curiosity-killed-the-cat  newton

So I am with the cat on this one!! Keep looking for answers. “Be Positive”,”Be Brave” (as Wyatt would say) and never stop asking questions, making improvements and being curious. 🙂

    • Wisdom Sheds Light On The Ghosts Of The Past ……..Daily Prompt: Ghost

Posted at 4:44 PM by carmelasnelbaker
      Aug 17th

      via Daily Prompt: Ghost

Ghosts that haunt are not always scary, sometimes they are best described as disappointments. In our lives as we live through the challenges and encounters that life throws our way, we will meet people who can leave us totally heartbroken with disappointment.

As a person who is a constant seeker of spiritual beauty and truth, I get great joy, contentment and peace offering kindness and genuine love to others. In my adventures I have met several people who I have extended great kindness and support to who have deeply hurt me with dishonest habits.

When we find ourselves confronted with conflict that we cannot change or be supportive of, the best option for our life is to continue our life with the same integrity we have always lived and part ways with those who wish to live in a different manner.

This does not mean however, that the memories of these encounters does not live on. They often surface bringing with them a very sad feelings of disappointment.

There are times in our life when we will meet people who think differently and live differently than we are used to. Many of these encounters will enrich our lives and give us personal growth.

It is when an encounter with someone begins to change and our normality of life and integrity are challenged and belittled by another that we need to separate ourselves from the situation.

Even though the person may be blaming you and belittling you as a person, this has nothing to do with you or anything you have done. The other person has a true inner weakness of blame. Because he or she is feeling small they wish you to feel smaller so they attack to pull you down with them.

For whatever reason deep inside if the person does not get their own way, or is not believed to be right, an inner switch is flipped on and the blame game begins. They will be right and everyone else wrong. Tensions rise and the name calling aggression starts.

      nothing about you

I have no idea what is truly going on in their heads, and I do not know if there is a diagnosis or proper name for these actions. What I do know is that I have seen this happen many times and the people that are doing this are not happy people. They are mislead in believing that what they are doing will gain them happiness.

If you are a person who has an inner weakness of blame. When you feel angry and out of control. Re-examine your thoughts and feelings. Look deep inside yourself for the answers before you unleash blame on everyone other than yourself.

    • When You Don’t Have a Pool And It’s Hot You Simply Make Due With What You’ve Got :)

Life is not easy…….But it doesn’t have to be so confusing

      Focus on what is important

Always view your glass (or bucket) as half FULL and not half empty

      Think Positive

Find solutions that are available to you

Pray for wisdom and positive loving solutions and act on what you feel is right

This post was inspired from the daily prompt challenge confused

      dogpool

      ONE COOL DOG

When you don’t have a pool and it’s hot

You make due with what you’ve got

Two front paws are cool, while the back one’s will dual

For equal time at a shot

I cannot dive in, and immerse myself

Like those with lakes or ponds

The flip side of this, that I should not dismiss

is of fish and mud, I’m not fond

This day in review, is a blessing, it’s true

for I’m safe and cannot drown

So I keep my chin up, and tell those who snicker

I choose to only see the blessings in life that abound
